 Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, NYC. I've been playing with the iMac. One of the things that made me hesitate about upgrading the system from the old iMac to a new one was the software upgrades that went along with it. My old versions of Photoshop, After Effects and Final Cut would need to be brought up to speed. Better than having to buy new but still not cheap. So far the only big upgrade has been Photoshop CS3. Love it. I'm putting off the AE and Final Cut upgrades for a while because I don't do nearly as much motion graphic work at home as I once did. Most 'work' stays at work now with the occasional exception. What I want to do is learn how to use the iLife bundle that comes with the machine. So on Sunday afternoon I made this little video from our NYC vacation images. Not bad for an afternoon's play. Music: "Dream Like New York" by Tyrone Wells There are some serious limitations to iMovie 8 that I thought I was just going to have to get used to. I've never used it and I didn't expect FCP quality so I just tried to work around things. But it turns out there's a better iMovie out there and it's free. It's the previous version. I don't want to get too far into it here but it's kinda funny (if you're an editing geek) so if you care, David Pogue at the NY Times wrote about it after the version 8 release last year.
