 We just got back in town this afternoon from a very cool little weekend camping trip over to Florida Caverns State Park, just outside Marianna. (a little over 2 hours from Pensacola) A cave in Florida. Who knew. I don't have a lot of specific memories of my childhood camping trips but I do remember that I was bored most of the time. People sitting around fishing, talking or playing cards. Me not really liking any of those things. Heat. Bugs. No TV. No basketball. A lot of sitting. Camping never really stuck with me. Seemed like a waste of time. But it turns out there are other ways to go camping in the great outdoors and my lovely wife found this great place. Pretty much from the time we pitched our tents until we unpitched them, we were on the go. We hiked, biked, canoed, caved, s'mored and more. We saw critters everywhere including a few gators. One watched us as we paddled by in our canoes. More on that later. Of course we had some challenges and minor injuries but that just makes for better stories. I cracked my head on a low cave ceiling and later on took a little tumble while hiking over the caverns. Nothing serious. Just a few souvenir bruises and giggles for the girls. (I think they're starting to believe I'm not perfect. I guess as long as I still believe it, it's OK). We did spend time sitting around the campfire laughing and talking but it wasn't because there was nothing else to do. We were just exhausted and planning the next adventure. (and applying bandages) Believe it or not, I even took a few photos. It's really a beautiful place. This image of all three of the ladies is from one of the awesome bike trails.
