 Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago. One of the brightest highlights of the trip. Check out this video for a taste of the place. I don't know if I've ever been to a place that exuded cool the way this place does. We heard we needed to get in early or we'd be standing, so we decided to eat dinner there so we would have a seat when the show started. Turns out we got to sit in the VIP section beside the stage (where this shot was taken from) and the food was down home awesome. Fried catfish, smothered in crawfish etoufee with cornbread, coleslaw and collard greens. Are you kiddin' me?! The Joe Moss Band opened and they were good. Some fancy pickin' and face contortions from Mr. Moss that, as Eddie said, looked like he was whistling his notes as he played. Whatever works. The headliner was The Kinsey Report and they rocked the place. The three Kinsey brothers plus one played a brand of blues that had a kick to it. Kinda' like blues with a splash of bright ruby red. I picked up an album off itunes when I got home and it's good. But seeing them live, that was something else. Just an awesome night. I saw Buddy Guy a few years ago at Springfest and apparently he hangs out at his club quite a bit but we didn't see him this time. I guess that means we'll have to go back again. Dang. Next time on Panhandlin': There's a story behind how we ended up choosing to go to Legends that involves Barack Obama, U2, the Wicked Witch of the West and a greedy group from the East. Way east.
