 The girls feeding seagulls at the beach on a cool, clear winter's day. A lot of fun for the price of a loaf of bread. More music. U2 and I have had an up and down relationship. We met when we were full of piss and vinegar and ready to take on the world. During the 'Under a Blood Red Sky' and 'Unforgettable Fire' years, we realized there was definitely some chemistry. Raw passion. Good times together. Then the relationship grew and 'The Joshua Tree' sent me head over heels in love. It felt meaningful. Deep. Epic. We had a great run through 'Rattle and Hum' and the new ground of 'Achtung Baby' kept things fresh. Then things got a little rocky. We went through a nasty split up during 'Zooropa' and 'Pop' in the 90's. I don't want to point fingers. We had just grown apart. I gave them the 'it's not U2, it's me' speech but I don't think it helped very much. They can be so moody sometimes. And pretentious. I thought it was over for good. Then a few years ago at a party of a mutual friend, we met again with the aptly titled 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' and it was like we had never been apart. Had they changed or had I? Could it last? Then they followed with 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' and I really feel like this time it may last. We can grow old together. Maybe we can save the world along the way.
