![]() Tonight at the 17th street trestle. A.K.A. 'Graffiti Bridge'. A Pensacola landmark/eyesore, depending on your point of view, where local youths and not so youths are allowed to express their inner Pollock. It gets cleaned up every now and then but it only takes a day or two before it's covered again. I guess it's tradition and the police seem to look the other way. That's fine. For me it's not the what but the how. My problem with the bridge is quality. The Graffiti is terrible. Mostly kindergarten line art with whoever hearting whomever all over the place. Simple and crude. There's no art. No creativity. It looks like a jumbled mess. Come on. If you're going to take the time, put in the effort. Have a plan. Study the masters. Really express yourself. Say something. Use beauty. Use irony. Use the humor. Whatever it takes. Just remember, you may be running out of time. The land around the trestle is being cleared for a condo complex. Other developments around there will follow. When that happens, people spending big money to live near the water aren't going to want an eyesore next door or people walking around 'their' neighborhood at 2 in the morning with beer cans and spray paint. The police may stop looking the other way. It's just a hunch, but I think if you want to be the next Banksy, you better get movin'. Time is short. 13s - f/8 - ISO100 - 17mm(27mm eq) - RAW Posted by blbutler on September 2nd, 2006 Archived under: Night / Long Exposure, Color, Places, Landmarks / Local Flavor, Wordplay |
