 Pensacola Beach, a little while after Black Dress on the Shore. I grew up in North Alabama about 7 hours or so from the beach. Not a quick trip but when I was a kid, we would occasionally come to the gulf on vacation. My aunt tells me that on one of those trips to Pensacola, I announced to the family I was going to live here one day. I can't remember saying it but I don't doubt it. I love the beach. Now the reason I ended up here had nothing to do with the beach. I moved here for the same reason most men do most things. Because of a woman. The woman moved here and I followed. Kind of stalkeresque but now that woman is my wife. I don't think that was part of the original statement I made to the family as a kid. 'One day I'm going to fall in love with a girl but then be afraid to commit and get all wishy washy and not realize how great she is until she moves away then follow her and try to make things better and then get married and have kids and live about 15 minutes from the beach because it's safer and more affordable.' It was probably just, 'I'm going to live here one day.' Either way, I live close to and still love the beach. And this is when I love it the most. Just after sunset while there's still a glow in the sky. The waves crashing on the shore. The strong, cool breeze. The hint of salt in the misty air. Just sitting in the sand. Just being completely there.
