![]() Today was my birthday. I got so many emails from friends and family. It was amazing. Thanks Julie. TC suggested a self portrait so here it is. Those are my feet at the bottom of this shot. This is me flying over the 3 Mile Bridge in a helicopter today. For those who don't know, I work for a television station. Mostly making commercials all day. Today was different. We needed new ariels of the area because since the hurricanes, the skyline has changed a bit. James Bently is our best and most experienced shooter so he was chosen to man the camera. Very cool set-up. The camera is mounted under the nose of the chopper and James sits in the back with a controller and screen that looks like a video game. I lucked into going along to help spot since he could only see what the camera could see. That meant I got to sit up front and help direct the shoot. Sooooo cool. Flying right over the pier, the beach, downtown, the lighthouse, the bayou. And wouldn't you know it, somehow my camera gear got on board.:-) I'm not sure how many of these I'll post. (I shot over 160 shots.) From a photographic standpoint, they aren't that great. It was about two in the afternoon, sun high, flat light, shooting through plexiglas and trying to keep the camera steady handheld. I was mainly shooting because when I see something I like, that's what I do. But there may be a few that have some merit, so I'll mix them in over the next few days. But the shooting wasn't the best part. Julie sent me a big, bunch of balloons at work and when I got home, the girls had each made me home made, poster sized birthday cards. Frank writes me a birthday limerick each year and this year's was awesome. I talked to my parents and my brother and his family made a surprise visit to Pensacola. What an ultra cool birthday.
